Your first week

Picture words, reviews and how many new words a day.

A good first week is mostly about building the habit. Here’s what to expect.

Your first cards are picture words

Flashfriend starts with the most useful words that work as a picture: things you can see, do or feel. For each one you pick a picture idea and a style, and you can add a person or place from your life. Pictures with meaning are the ones that stick.

Reviews come first

Each day, Flashfriend shows the cards that are due before any new ones. Answer honestly:

  • Again if you didn’t remember it.
  • Hard if you got there slowly.
  • Good if you remembered it.
  • Easy if it was instant.

Your answers set when you’re tested on each card next: just before you’d forget it.

How many new words a day

Start with 10 a day. If your reviews feel light after a few days, add more. If they pile up, go down a little. You can change it any time in Settings › New words a day.

Sentences come next

Once you know enough picture words, sentence cards join in. Each sentence is words you already know, plus one new one, so it always makes sense and you pick up the grammar on the way.

When a card keeps slipping

If you keep missing the same card, Flashfriend takes it out of your reviews and puts it in your Inbox. Remake it with a better picture or memory hook, or skip the word.
